CALENDAR OF TOPICS FOR THE LANGUAGE-AND CULTURE COURSE 2008
GC = 20 lessons/week according to your level of Italian (minimum knowledge B1) + 4 lessons/week on the following topics:
JANUARY Italy: the territory, the towns, the population, the language, the dialects, the linguistic minorities , the institutions, political parties in the present and in the past.
FEBRUARY The Italian Society: the family, women, the youth, relations between women and men, associationisms, the Roman Catholic Church, religious minorities, the working-system, holiday and free-time
MARCH Music and the Italian Music: opera, ethnic Italian music, songwriter, pop-music.
APRIL Famous Italians today and in the past: 8 personalities
MAY The Italian way of life: cuisine, vine, coffee and cafés, fashion, design, football/ soccer, ‘la Ferrari’
JUNE Italian Cinema: from the neo-realism to Benigni.
JULY Media in Italy: Television yesterday and today, the press, advertising/ publicity
AUGUST Italian holidays (Christmas, Easter, Epiphany, Carnival), regional traditions and folklore
SEPTEMBER North and South: the origins of the conflict. The ‘Mafia’, the Italian emigration in the world.
OCTOBER Italian Pop Culture: genre-cinema (horror, spaghetti western, the comedies in the 70ies), comics
NOVEMBER

Famous Italian women: Natalia Ginzburg, Oriana Fallaci, Anna Magnani,Sofia Loren, Mina e Patty Pravo, Rita Levi Montalcini, Margherita Hack.
